Whenever I play a game my CPU temps get really really hot super fast for some reason.. 80c hot!

The highest I've seen it go is 80 and I was only playing a game for about 10 minutes!

Can anyone tell me why?

Thanks in advance! :)

P.S. I've got a few fans in my PC as well as a stock CPU fan. I don't overclock..
I use CPUID monitor to check my temps.

Would it by any chance be faulty? Should I ring Amazon and return it for a new one?

PC is brand new so the stock thermal paste should still be ok,right?
I've only had the PC up and running for about 4 days now :\

Stock cooler is not good but it sounds like your cooler is not on the CPU properly... I would re-seat the cooler on the CPU with some MX-4 paste. This set up should be running low 30's idle and max about 50/60's in games. Got to be the cooler not on properly.

Also i can't see your temps... could you post image of temps via realtemp or coretemp please one in idle one under load.

Sure :)
How do I take screenshots of CPUID HWmonitor? I googled it but couldn't find anything. 🙁

use snipping tool in windows 'metro and the search snipping tool' or screen print on your keyboard 'prt Scr'

Not going to record after few minutes of gameplay because I'm worried about the temps getting that high again,I'm not playing games until I sort this problem out. The temps on each core of the CPU go to 80-90c, and the GPU goes to about 64-ish.

That does not look too bad. Can you do me a favor and download realtemp and then take a screenshot of that in idle. Your idle temps are currently at 30'ish in degrees which is right for your cooler on the i7 4790k

My idle temps aren't the problem tho, the problem is how quick the temps get to 90c after only playing the game for 3 minutes. It wouldn't even stop at 90,it would just keep going up and up.

Should I use the default settings of the test (CPU stress,FPU stress, memory stress, cache stress, or choose to only test the CPU?

OK that about does it. I can only think that your CPU cooler is not seated correctly as you should not be getting those temps under load. I would re-seat your cooler with some new thermal paste (MX-4 preferably) and better yet get a better cooler than the one that came with the CPU. A H80i or H100i or similar AIO (all in one water cooler) would be best or a noctua dh-15. Sorry that's all i can come up with.

Also have you checked whether the cooler is on properly. if it is the one that came with the cpu, check each one of the 4 latches that hold it onto the CPU and motherboard to make sure that they are on tight as this cooler should still be able to handle things in gaming and should not go anywhere near 70 degrees.

Thanks for the help :)
I'm pretty sure I placed the fan correctly. Think I might just go ahead and get these:

and update my BIOS.

How much cooler will my system be with these?

+ Are you sure there isn't a problem with my CPU? Should I return it?

Nothing wrong with CPU... still sure that the heatsink is not on properly as in the latches that attach to the cpu and motherboard.... nothing to do with the fan bit, but your choice above on the new cooler is great and will make a difference.

sounds good! :)
And can I just use the thermal paste that comes with the evo 212? or best to buy better paste?
+What's better? Artic 5 silver thermal paste (one I linked) or Silver MX-4?
