So I've been getting notifications from CAM software about my CPU temps exceeding 80c for prolonged periods of time. Now I know that the temp monitoring on it is not that accurate and tends to add about 5c most of the time from more accurate temps, but it still got me thinking that for it to reach those temps seems kinda odd.
So I have a Kraken X62 and using coretemp while having my cooler fan speeds up to 80% I monitored the temps for various things.
When idle I sit at about 35c on all cores average. But when I playback just a single YouTube video it goes up to 50c on a couple cores, 45c on one of them and up to 65c on another. now, this hottest core seems to be just a little too warm to me for just a simple YouTube video. And when running minecraft with shaders my average temps are about 75c with the hottest core jumping up to 82c then back down again and doing it frequently which is expected for it to that however I don't like the temps it's reaching. When I first used and tested my kraken during a max heat stress test the temps only got up to about 85c so I don't see how minecraft with shaders or even a regular game would make it that hot.
However, I could just be not thinking right and these temps are normal for the most part.
My CPU is an i7-6700k overclocked to 4.7Ghz at 1.4v
If this is normal for the most part with that overclock then I guess I'm just not that aware of how the temps for this chip work. otherwise, if it should be lower then do let me know and help me figure out what is not right that is causing the temps.
I am definitely thinking that it's normal because I'm running such high clocks at a whopping 1.4v which the voltage I do know at that level will definitely put out some serious heat.
