CPU Temps reaching 90*C

Hello forum,

Recently my 4 year old motherboard died on me,so i bought a new Asrock G31M-VS2 motherboard just to keep the system running as i will buy a new pc late this year.

Earlier my cpu used to idle @ 21-30 * C and 39 at load.After i changed my mobo,i removed the thermal compound on it and the cooler(i have a stock intel cooler),with some alcohol.And with no thermal paste it's running @ 60* idle.

So 1.Does thermal paste create such huge difference in cooling?
2.Or could it be some other reason.

Add info : CPU= pentium d 925 @ 3 ghz
Cpu fan is @ 2200 RPM inspite of being this hot
fan was 4100 rpm during summer at load.

Thermal Paste is a necessity and greatly cools down your cpu. You also shouldn't have your cpu at 90*C it could burn out your processor and your mobo. 60*C idle is really high for idle temps. You should definitely go out and buy some thermal paste only about $10 and make sure your have a heatsink on your cpu to keep it cool also.

Ideal temp are 20-30*C idle and anything 70*C+ is really bad.

Oh yes, If you didn't have thermal paste, you are essentially slowly killing your cpu.
Fix that fast dude. Thermal paste is dirt cheap.

Yeah thanks,bought the paste and its finally back to safe temps.And i was able to OC it to 3.6 at stock and still max at 57*C.Thanks!
