I just put my first system together and I checked the temp in the bios and it idles at 50 celceius. is this temp to high for a 1000mhz tbird 266 fsb abit kt7a mobo 256 meg crucial cas2 ram. it has the stock heatsink and fan from amd

Yeah... it sounds a little high for idle. I'd look for something in the mid to low 40's at idle and under load 50 would in in the ballpark. Did you use paste on the HSF? I find that using that pre-installed pad doesn't work very well. Also, there's a lot of debate out there on how accurate the temp monitors are.

I'm running the same chip you are @ 1350 150x9, my idle (surfing) temps are in the low to mid 30's, with load temps in the high 40's. What brand of heatsink are you using?
