Hi all, I need to build a computer that is expandable to 128GB of RAM so that I can run the new Witcher 3 game on max settings (just kidding...). But seriously, I need a CPU like this. It seems like Intel's Desktop line ends at 64GB and then the servers can handle more... but are WAY more expensive. Trying to do this for $2,500-$3,000 and the RAM is already going to cost ~ $1,200 or so. I tried looking into AMD's Opteron line (specifically the 6272), but I can't find any information on max RAM capacity from AMD or in forums. Thanks!

Bioinformatics - microbial genome assembly. I'm trying to gauge whether or not doing it locally (opposed to a shared cluster or supercomputer) is at all an option. I could achieve what I want if I could find a way to build a machine supporting 128GB of RAM for $2,500. If the i7s could support it, It'd be doable. I'd need a CPU that was $700 or less.

OK, so I found this: Xeon Hexa-core E5-2630v2

Now I need to find an LGA 2011 motherboard that supports 128GB and Ivy Bridge right off the bat, which the MSI X79A-GD45 Plus LGA 2011 does not, unless something has changed recently.
