cpu thermal paste ?

ok so long story short i disassemble my pc to return the motherboard because i thought or is malfunctioning,, only that i think i know the problem since i just fixed it on my laptop too ,, but when i was disassembling, the thermal paste that came with the stock fan got removed so im wonderin can i put the cpu fan back on without the thermal paste for like 2 minutes? i just wanna check if it works, what i think is wrong

You should clean and replace the paste.

If it was not removed(or got dusty/ect) sometimes it will still work(done it my self, but I do things that I do not recommend to others.).

The official recommendation is to replace it. Even cheap paste is better than no paste.
