I have a question...
So I have a i5-8250u CPU.
It's base speed is 1.60GHz

And I want to game with it... I know, but I'm on a budget. So I heard that gaming doesn't use threads.
So will reducing my core count to 4 in "msconfig" improve my gaming performance?
When I did it the cpu clock stays at 1.80GHz at all time, can't turbo boost or go down at all. (I don't know why it didn't go to 160GHz)

Solution
No, reducing the "core count" will not improve your game performance.
Set it back to the default, and leave it alone.

The CPU will ramp up to whatever speed it needs, when it needs it. Up to 3.4GHz.
