I need to upgrade my CPU and I wonder if i can get something better to fit my MOBO(Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3) without needing to change the motherboard, also i got a 500W PSU and i'll probably need a better cooler if there is a better CPU i can get

Solution
I would not put a 125w cpu on that board. That just asking for VRM problems. If you are deadset on upgrading just the cpu stick to a 95w cpu like the 8320e or 8370e. But unless you can find one of those real cheap you'd be better off saving your money for a new platform(cpu ,motherboard and ram).

so i find the number it says 6.0 and the budget isn't really the issue i just wanna upgrade my pc slightly before i go to collage next year and get a part time job then i would just buy a new PC.

ok then to get a better idea what you have I need the following details (you can use speccy to get them if you like)

CPU we have at FX6300
Motherboard you have Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 rev 6
RAM make/model/size?
Hard drive make/model/Size?
video card make/model?
Power Supply make/model?

why all this, to find out if a simple cpu upgrade will bring th maximum of improvement over value.
i.e. an SSD would improve speed over a HDD, as will more ram if you only have 8GB.

But as for cpu you are looking at FX-8300, 8310, 8320, 8350, or 8370
as for a cooler for it, you would need a good one to make sure to keep it running... so for 8xxx series I would suggest a CRYORIG - H7
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/93Crxr/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h7 if not available then a Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO would do, if you dont overclock the cpu.

as for SSD, you could depending what size your drive currently is, clone your hdd to the ssd, and then continue to use the HDD for data/backups
as for ram, if you only have 4 or 8 I might suggest 16GB but this all depends what your going to use your pc for (work or gaming)
and finally depending on your cpu/video card, those may need upgrading...

now considerinbg what I said above... I also want to bring attention to the value of upgrading that ….to be honest a dead end system
assuming you did the changes named above,,, your upgraded system would look like this..

For that price... I would rather think you would simply get these parts and simply keep the case and upgrade the guts. to the following, I do assume you live in the usa or Europe where these parts are easily available, if not the case do tell me.
for a few more hundred of dollars more, you would have a seriously upgraded, powerfull system that would take you to the next years of computing.

Could you also add a gpu for the more expensive build as mine is just a gtx 750 ti.
Also if you think it would be better to jsut get a whole new system could you find a pre build cuz i am not really comfortable building a pc by myself, the only changes to my pc i did by my own is changing the gpu.
