Cpu turns off suddenly

I was cleaning out my pc and cleaned the heat sync. Ok so, I went to took off the thermal paste cleaned it off all is well. I go get the thermal paste, squeeze some out, and there's hardly any. When I put my cpu fan back on a screen pops and and says cpu fan error then shuts off. Please reply ASAP

Obvious question - did you make sure to plug the fan for the heatsink back in?

Check for bent pins on CPU socket.

UPDATE: The cpu fan wasn't hooked up all the way to the motherboard so my fault. I still need to go get thermal paste and I will be all good. Thanks for the replies
