[SOLVED] CPU upgrade advice please

Hi, I am looking to possibly upgrade my CPU in my current gaming PC and am looking for advice -

The reason I am trying to upgrade is to get the most out of my RX Vega 56 GPU. From what I have researched I am not getting the most out of my GPU.
I have a 1920x1080p HP X24ih gaming monitor - 144hz. I am just looking to get more fps(hopefully a consistent 144fps if possible as I am not currently).
Obviously due to my ASRock motherboard I will have to stay with AMD CPU's, which is fine with me.
The games that I play are CoD Warzone, CoD Cold War & Fortnite.
Just looking for advice on what CPU to specifically upgrade to.

A simple 3600x or 5600x would do just fine and work with that motherboard. Though you may struggle to find a CPU in this market givin' all the scalpers and world wide silicon shortage. But that CPU shouldn't be much of a bottleneck with that GPU, even at 1080p.

If you do not need the integrated graphics, a Ryzen 3600 (non +) would be the next logical step up, any extra cores for those games wont make any difference unless you have other things running in the background (e.g. 3800, 3900 etc).

A 5600+ would be ideal, but TBH I am not familiar with high refresh 1080p gaming as I play at 60Hz at 4K.

Due to massive demand for the 5000 series CPU's the entire market is very expensive right now. You might want to wait a couple of months until things settle down.

I am not familiar enough with your needs to give a clear answer, sorry.

yah the 3600 would be my suggestion as well. it's currently $195 on newegg which is a heck of a deal.

if you want to wait for a 5000 series chip, this a good place to look. the 5600x sells out fast but the 5800x stayed in stock for about 3 days last time it showed up. that would be a massive upgrade vs what you have now.

The 5800+ is a terrible deal though, it is way overpriced, I heard that it was now (or soon to be) being discounted, hence why it is in stock.

no clue where you heard that, but that is absurd. they are not going to discontinue that chip and the retail price is not way overpriced. the entire line up was raised $50 from the 3000 series prices. it is a rather big price jump from 6 to 8 cores for sure but it is still only $50 more than the comparable 3700x was new. it's relative value depends on your needs. a gaming machine will be fine with the 6 cores and as i suggested above, the 3600 is a great option. if you get lucky and find the 5600 in stock at ~$300 then go for it.

i was simply noting that often the 5800 stays in stock longer due to its higher price and if the buyer is impatient, they can possible have an easier time finding one of them rather than waiting for a 5600 to be in stock. if you don't want to wait at all, the 3600 is still the way to go and easy to find in stock most of the time.

if you wish to pay the scalper price, you can actually find a 5600 here and there. for instance newegg still has one listed in stock, though the price is very high at $390

i went with a 3700x for the extra threads myself. and at $330 is a bit high for the 2 extra cores over the 3600

a 5600 would seem a logical choice...availability not withstanding. A 3600 would also be a massive improvement in min FPS, as the 3400G was never known for being a gaming panacea, but, more of a 'minimum budget CPU', suitable for perhaps 60 Hz gaming.
