I have a system based on a
GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 mobo and using an AMD FX4300 cpu. I recently upgraded the graphics card but I think the CPU needs the upgrade more. The new GPU is a new radeon r9 290. What would be the best CPU upgrade (I dont want to replace the mobo as well!). The 4.0 Mhz 8 core FX8350 looks like a contender. Will it work and would anything else need replacing? Are there other contenders given the existing mobo?
Many thanks

According to Google that is a socket AM3+ mobo, so an 8350 will fit. The 8320 gives you the same 8 cores at lower clock speeds, and is very kind to overclocking.

Either one would want a decent aftermarket cooler as part of the purchase and install. Hyper 212 is the cooler of choice for bang for buck there, very inexpensive compared to how well it cools.

$70ish difference in price. Depending on sales etc.

You need to update your bios to latest. Then try... I think the board is only rated to 95w, the newer 8350's are 125w... So if you can borrow a 8300 (95w) try that.... Otherwise buy a 6300 (95w) off ebay or craigslist. Google your mobo and best cpu you can use it... And/Or then save up for something better?
