Hello everyone!

I'm looking at getting a new CPU in the next 2 weeks, I was looking at the following 2 options below. I have a budget of £150. My primary use will be for gaming.

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590

OR

AMD Kaveri A10-7890K Wraith 12

Just a few questions i have.

1) will either of these be a direct fit to my current set up?
2) which one of these 2 would be the better options?
3) are there any better cpu's I should be looking at for my price range?

My current setup:

Processor: AMD Athlon X4-860K CPU, 4 Cores, 3.7 - 4GHz
Graphics Card: GTX 1050 Ti 4GB
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-F2A68HM-HD2
Memory: 8 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
Power Supply: Aerocool 80 PLUS 500W PSU

Any help will be much appreciated!

Unless you want to move to a new platform, you are already at or near the top of the food chain when it comes to processor. The FX-9590 is a AM3+ socketed CPU, whereas your platform is FM2+. Not interchangeable. Your best bet for some gaming improvement if you keep your current platform would be a gfx card upgrade. But even there, you will run into the CPU bottleneck issue if you go much higher... meaning you will be getting less and less bang for the gfx card buck.

I would feel comfortable recommending the GTX 1060 3GB or RX-480 as the top card to get. Even then, expect some minor CPU bottleneck in some games at some times.

have had a look around and im going to save for new motherboard. ram and cpu, looking at the ryzen 1500x, is this a good option?

Yes, that is an acceptable choice. Although...
My personal feeling is that this 1st gen AMD Ryzen platform (while finally competitive with Intel) still needs a bit of work. I was waiting to move from my AM3+ platform to the AM4 platform, but now I think I'll wait until the bugs are all ironed out. If you want to build a new system now, you may want to play it safe and stay with Intel. Just a thought...
