Hi guys, well I'm upgrading my gpu and cpu this week, moving to a 7870 card. What I am wondering here and would like to gain some solid feedback about is basically where I need to go from here. I've been running an AMD Phenom II 965 BE and had it oc'd to 3.8ghz and I've loved this cpu for what I spent. That being said I've been an AMD guy for the most part but I hear ranting and raving about Intel's cpu's for gaming. I want something that is going to last me into some of the next gen games so I've been looking at the 8320's and 8350's from AMD. any feedback is greatly appreciated.

My specs:

Phenom II 965 BE ocd 3.8ghz Hyper Evo 212
XFX 7750 1GB ddr5 800mhz
8GB HyperX Blue
Thermaltake TR2 600w
Gigabyte 78LMT-S2P

If you're gonna go AMD and have the money, I'd definitely go for the FX 8350, like you said the i5 wins out (just) but need more cooling and that. Yeah I'd go 8350, it's a really good CPU by the looks of it :)
I'd go for the i5 3570K. It's excellent for gaming and in my opinion the best. There is no point spending the extra for an i7, it's more expensive because it has Hyperthreading, which games don't use, only professional design applications utilize it. For pure gaming, the i5 3570K is perfect and can be overclocked very effectively. Most modern gamers use it.

Dan.

What about an 8350? They are compared to the i5 3570 in many reviews, some varying on thier opinions but it just seems to be a much more "future proof" cpu, I also like supporting AMD not Intel, rather give the underdog my money tbh same with most people I know that build, they buy mostly AMD. I've never had good luck with Intel, they run too hot as well, even with aftermarket cooling, my i5 in my laptop crapped the bed in 2 months so I'd like to steer clear of Intel, ty tho.

the 965 overclocked is still a good cpu. you will see a huge difference just from upgrading the 7750 to 7870.

i would get the graphics card first and see how you like it. If youre still not satisifed, then get the i5-3570k or wait several months for haswell.

I have that CPU, but I think he's gonna go AMD with the FS 8350, which I don't blame him really :)

I know those i5's are awesome too, my girl has a 2500k in her asus laptop and its ridiculous the games she can play smoothly even with the integrated graphics, I mean she runs Far Cry 3, Skyrim, BF3 its crazy, not taking anything away from the i5's I just really like those fx8350's and they are competing with i7's now from what I read.

Nah it's fine, I just chose it because I needed to save some money for a good graphics card and yeah the FX 8350 are really pulling a stunt on the Intels. The HD 7870, good choice my friend :) And good luck with the build.
