Hello, I have been looking around for 2nd hand Core 2 Quads and recently tested a Q9450 to see if it would work with my PC before I bought it. I am pretty sure I have all the prerequisites, power and socket wise etc. and I don't know why it wont work. When i turned my PC on the on/off switch light didn't come on but everything else did. My monitor also displayed no signal.

these are my current specs

PSU: Thermaltake Litepower 650 watt
CPU: Pentium E5700 dual core 3ghz
Motherboard: ECS LGA775 G41t M13, which clearly states on the box that it supports Core 2 Quad and Core 2 extreme processors
GPU: GT 430
RAM: 4GB
HDD: 500GB

People said that upgrading your bios will fix it so i did and i have the latest bios version. Still the same thing happens.
Any advice will be much appreciated

Not all Core 2 Quads/Duos are created equal. Just because it states C2Q support, does not mean it support ALL of them. The Core2 era was a long one with MANY different types.

Now from the ECS website the Q9450 IS supported BUT only from the BIOS date : 04/10/2012

So my first suggestion would be update your BIOS.

if you have the latest bios, my guess would be, given the machine works with the dual core cpu, that the quad core cpu is dead. especially given that your motherboard claims to support it, has the right bios, but still will not post.

The Q9450 c1 is actually listed as a native supported cpu for that board, so as long as all the simple things are addressed, it should actually work. Did you reset the cmos before you powered it up?
Cpu power lead in?I have No answers then. Put a Q6600 in it. They overclock like a demon. There isnt much games difference between those 2 quads and the Q6600 is cheap.

If you would stick to your own replies that would be nice.
I state it because people do not do this correctly or up till the latest version. He did not state the "new BIOS" version or date, so me putting the date there urge him to check it.

Will clearing the CMOS do the trick because eBLU, an automatic bios updating program gave me the option to do so but I didn't think that it was important. Is there a guaranteed solution because every time I want to test the CPU I have to drive very far into a sketchy place.

I previously put in a Q6600 before I got the PSU and it struggled to even power up but with the Q9450 and new PSU it powered up and everything turned on except for power light on front of case and monitor said no signal
