Cpu upgrade | dell optiplex 755 | Quad Core Q9550

Hello guys, this is my first time posting on this website!
I bought a core 2 quad Q8400 @2.66ghz a while back but i want something better now!
Motherboard Model: 0GM819
Chipset: Q35

I'm curious to know if this CPU will work with this motherboard: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz
I do have a good enough fan/psu just not sure if it will work my motherboard.

So long as your BIOS is up to date+the CPU sockets are the same, i.e they are both in the LGA 775 platform, then yes you can however going by the owners manual the highest Core 2 Quad offered out of the factory is a Q6700 which leads me to believe that the thermal solution is your limiting factor.

Looking up the Q6700, it's a 105W TDP part as opposed to the 95W on the Q9550.

You should be good to go!

I'd say- save money and get a newer computer in future, Q9550 won't give you any noticeable improvement over Q8400. If you don't have, add an SSD drive- that will boost your system much more.
