I have a Acer Veriton M460. It currently has an Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2180 @2.00GHz. I am pretty sure it is a 775 socket CPU. I have ordered 4GB of ram and a graphics card(GT 730) to give it some more horsepower. I was wondering what a good CPU upgrade would be. I would like to spend no more than $20-$30 ish dollars. Any suggestions would be great on a better CPU that would be compatible. If you need it, the motherboard is EG31M Version 1.0. OS is Windows 7 Pro 32 bit Service Pack 1

Solution
Provided the BIOS wont hold you back, you should be able to drop in a Q6600/Q6700.

If your motherboard is the same as that found off of Gigabyte's portfolio, then their CPU support list list's the Q9550 as a viable processor which should be inexpensive off Ebay.

Will a 250w power supply run the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 ? Also, will this CPU work with DDR2 ram?
