CPU upgrade for Dell computer

I am currently using the following
Dell Inspiron 640m
RAM: 1GB
Processor: Intel Core duo T2050 @ 1.6 GHz
Can I change my processor to Core 2 duo T7400 as it was too slow

From the above specs I don't see any problems, except the physical challenges of changing CPUs in a mobile device. I didn't see any alarms regarding heat.

That laptop specs say it is compatible with Core Duo CPU's only (probably max T2450 2.0GHz). Not a Core 2 Duo.
Your CPU has a FSB of 533MHz, that's what I matched. You could try to upgrade to a CPU with 667MHz FSB (like T2700), but I don't know if it will work.

Also it can take max 2GB of RAM - that would be a better upgrade at this point.

I think you should buy a new machine, but that's my opinion
