I have a Dell Inspiron 530 and I want to upgrade the cpu. It currently has an Intel Core 2 Duo E6650. I was wondering if I could upgarde it to and Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600.
Just because the cpu is the same socket does not mean it's compatible. There were 2 different mobos used on the 530. One accepts core 2 quad, ones does not. FoxConn G33m02 [Dell P/N ORY007] motherboard does not support core 2 quad.

Oh, Okay. I'll have to check the only problem is that the computer I am going to upgrade is my friends so i'll have to check.

Would it be possible to check what motherboard it has by the service tag?
