Hi, I just recently acquired a DG965RY motherboard with a LGA 775 cpu socket, the motherboard is http://ark.intel.com/products/22637/Intel-Desktop-Board.... I dont care if people think that this motherboard is out of date, I have no choice in the matter but to upgrade this cpu. So since we got that out of the way, what would be the best cpu I could put on this motherboard? Also wouldn't a core E8600 fit the motherboard? and if there is a better cpu I could put on it please tell me :) .Was just wondering this because this site http://www.game-debate.com/motherboard/index.php?mot_id..., and this one says it will http://www.game-debate.com/hardware/index.php?pid=6&mob..., but this one say it cant http://processormatch.intel.com/Processors/CompatibleProcessors?componentName=DG965RY. So im just a bit perplexed lol

If you find somewhere in documentation, like in details for a BIOS update, that it was made compatible, then yes. Otherwise you could try it but odds are not in your favor of it working.

It's probably due to the E8600 being on the 45nm process with an FSB or 1333mhz, whereas the E6700 is 65nm and 1066mhz.
