CPU upgrade from i5 to i7

Hello Everyone,

I currently have a Maximus Hero V1 motherboard(Z87 chip-set),CPU:i5 - 4670K
I am looking for a good CPU upgrade,my first option is to go for i7-4770K.
Is it possible to install the i7- 4790K(Devil's Canyon) on a Z87 Motherboard?

Yes it is possible to install 4790k on Z87 MoBo, you'd need to install the latest BIOS update.

As an i7 owner and gamer, I can clearly say i7 is nothing but a hyperthreaded i5, which gives the i7 four extra, virtual cores. This is very good for professional video editing, as the HT feature can give you up to 30% better performance in such applications. Unfortunately, no game is taking advantage of neither 8 cores nor HT, which actually makes the similar i7 3-9% slower in CPU intense games.

My advice: Keep an i5 and save the bucks mate. Yes the i7 is compatible with your mobo.

Why are you upgrading? If it's purely for gaming then it's not worth it, if it's for video editing or rendering, something more intensive like that then it's probably worth it.

Thanks you,that was quick,i was in the second post and already five replies !!,anyway so it is not worth upgrading to i7 core? Yes my primary requirement is gaming, best save up for a better monitor now i guess..

The i5 is plenty in terms of gaming, i7 will come handy only in productivity tasks like rendering, modelling, editing, etc.
