Hello everyone.
I'm writing to you as I have a big doubt of what I'm doing.
I have ordered a Ryzen 5 3600 in order to upgrade my actual build which consists in an i7-4770, 8 gb ram (single channel) and an old h83m board.
I'm even gonns buy a rx5700 evoke o powercolor when they come out here in Italy.
For now, i have a gtx1060.

My question is: is it worth upgrading to a 3600 in terms of gaming performance?
I mean, if I just change my GPU to a rx5700 and i keep my 4770 just like it is, would i get quite the same performance as 3600+rx5700?
A friend today told me that i won't see much improvement with a rx5700 going from a i7-4770 to a ryzen 5 3600, so i'm asking you even because i know if to stop buying and ship back my brand new 3600 to amazon, or just keep buying other components (RAM, Motherboard..)

Hope i could get some help.

Thanks

To get everything out of Rx 5700(x) you need an x570 MB and it's PCIe 4.0 bus and that you can get only with Ryzen 3000 series CPU. With R5 3600 you would get more potent and modern system while your old system is a dead end.

I do not have the budget for a x570 board actually, as my idea was buying a B450 Motherboard, my budget is limited.
Wanna specify i mean the Tomahawk B450 or the Gaming Plus.

So do you think i will have major improvements in gaming goin from a i7-4770(non-k version) to a r5 3600?
Would you upgrade if you were me?

Gaming - no, at least for most games. Multi-player games benefit more than most.

I went from a 3770k to a 3700x. Gaming performance from a GTX 1070 @ 1080p (I won't upgrade my monitors until 4k is out of infancy) is pretty similar in most games except Shadow of Tomb Raider and BFV where I was CPU-limited before.

However, the multi-tasking and overall system performance is worlds better and I am pretty happy with the upgrade. I also do some Photoshop, GIS, and video editing on the site, and the Ryzen is a beast at that stuff.

The RX 5700 is not going to perform any different, in an x570, than it would B450. It is nowhere near fast enough to saturate a 3.0 slot, much less take advantage of 4.0. Currently 4.0 is only useful for PCI-E storage that use the 4.0 spec. I would still try and get x570, to avoid bios issues. Many seem to have problems updating older gen boards, for Ryzen 3000. There is a fairly significant price difference, between the Tomahawk, and the cheapest x570 board, but I believe it is worth it, to avoid the headaches.

If you cannot afford the x570, right now, just use your current CPU, until you can afford to make the switch.

No it isn't worth it for gaming. I have a 4790k and plan to upgrade in 2024 asw my signature suggests. Maybe get a new GPU only if you want to upgrade, but better wait for next year as awesome GPUs will come out.

Bios Flashback is your friend if you need to update BIOS to support Ryzen 3000-series. Don't need CPU installed. I think you don't need RAM installed either.
Do not know which B450 to choose. If gaming plus or tomahawk (gaming plus is 30$ less than the tomahawk).
