Question CPU Upgrade Gone Wrong

I'm a bit in over my head with this stuff and have tried my best but come up stuck, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specs:
Gigabyte b150m ds3h Motherboard
2x Corsair CMK8GX4M1D3000C16 Vengeance LPX 8 GB
Palit GTX 1080
Stock CPU coolers
EVGA 550w PSU

I'm trying to upgrade my i5 6500 with a i5 9400f.

With the new processor installed turning on the pc spins fans and turn on lights for half a second, then everything switches back off, so it won't post at all.

After putting my old i5 6500 back in with nothing else changed, the pc works perfectly.

So far I've tried:

- Reseating CPU, ram and GPU
-Resetting CMOS with jumper and leaving battery out for 15 minutes
-Updating BIOS to F22f and then resetting CMOS again

I don't have any other boards to test the new cpu on.

Help a poor clueless lad out please.

The 9400F won't work with that motherboard even though the socket is the same. To use that CPU you need to get a B360/H370/Z370 with updated BIOS or a Z390 or B365 board.

And if/when you do swap out the motherboard you'll want to do a clean install of Windows as well as the drivers to avoid performance issues.

Your GIGABYTE GA-B150M-DS3H motherboard only supports the CPUs on this list:

Yea it was a bit confusing this time around to the newer gen CPU's using the same socket as the older ones but for that 9400F I would get a B365 as it will support it out of the box.
