Question Cpu upgrade help needed

I've recently got a setup for my son with a xeon e3 1230 v2 cpu and a gtx 1070 they are running on a hewlett packard 1790 motherboard, I don't know what the best upgrade would be cpu wise

Hey there,

TBH, there isn't a CPU from that stack that's better than what you have. Yes, you could install an I7 3770k, but it's more of a sidegrade than anything's else. Not worth the money for the tiny bit pf potential more performance.

What do you want to achieve with currant system? Gaming?

Yeah it's for my son to play games like footy manager and age of empires etc whixh it looks like it could do it comfortably but wasn't sure if it needed a better cpu to run games

Yeah, not much point in upgrading anything. There will be zero benefit in terms of an FPS increase.

OK thanks for that I guess I'll leave it as is then like I say wasn't sure about the xeon processor as a gaming one but I'll bow down to better knowledge than me once again thanks.

I know Xeons are frowned upon as any good for gaming, but they are killer gaming CPU's. for every consumer CPU there is a Xeon cousin that's the same thing, mind you the Xeon has more features but nothing that concerns us for gaming.

Leave the CPU alone like already stated. Best cheap upgrade would be memory. If you don't have 32 Gb's of memory you can get for about $35.00 $40 off amazon.

Non raytracing his system can and will play CyberPunk 2077 on the right settings just fine.






For what your son wants to play he will be fine. That GTX 1070 still chops whatever you throw at it. As long as you understand the latest AAA game releases really do put the squeeze on that 1070
