I have an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 and i was wanting to upgrade so i meet the system requirements of GTA V. Which takes a Q6600. My question is should i upgrade to the Q6600 or is there a better one for the money? My motherboard is a P5W DH Deluxe.
Something else that will help - Your motherboard supports 8GB of RAM. If you don't already have that much, try to find a cheap way to get it (ebay, CL)
the q6600 is old but gold. You can overclock it pretty easily.
If you don't want to overclock you can get the q9300 or something which is the newer refresh of the q6600. It has slightly higher clock speed and runs a little cooler.
Your core2 is an older computer. How much are you spending on the Q6600? If it's under $50.00 a CPU upgrade is an inexpensive way to attempt to play GTA V but the long-term solution is to get a new PC.
Given that the socket of that CPU has been around for a while, it is difficult to find very good CPUs in particular.
The core 2 quad is about as good as it gets on that socket.
You can find your desired Q6600 refurbished or used for under $30, which is a pretty good deal considering.
If you want about the best CPU available on that socket, you can go for the Q9500 for under $150 used and refurbished.
Otherwise, you'd have to upgrade your motherboard to get a better CPU, which starts to get costly.
