CPU upgrade [i5 3470 or i7 3770]

My current system is,

Pentium G2020,
8gb ddr3 1600Mhz
Gtx 1060 3GB,
Win 10 64bit
1080p monitor

I'm planing on upgrade my processor and my choices are i5 3470 and i7 3770, I dont need 'K' version since I'm not interest in OC, in here i7 3770 is cost $60 more than the i5 3470. And I only use this PC for gaming.

Obviously my question is, is it worth to pay extra $60 for the i7 and will I see considerable difference in gaming, does HT (hyper Threading ) matters with present/future games ?

you want the i7. In gaming i5s are starting to show their age due to lack of threads. i answer several threads a week about i5 bottlenecking various GPUs in modern games. Games like the Witcher 3, GTA V, The Division, Rise of the Tomb Raider will use 8+ threads where as games like BF1, Watch Dogs 2, Ghost recon the Wildlands will use 16+ threads. Point being it is not longer a good recommendation for 4C/4T CPUs in gaming. Those days have past. In these newer games/heavily treaded games you will see a solid performance bump. In older games/lightly threaded you won't see much change if any. The safe bet is the i7 3770. Honestly 6C/12T or better is my new recommended CPU setup for gaming unless like yourself your doing a drop in solution or a strict budget dictates otherwise. Enjoy the i7!

in terms of gaming for now, not so much difference, except on CPU-Intensive games (GTA V and its friends)
but if u had the money, i'd recommend the i7. im opting to that CPU once, but drops to i5 2400 coz lack of funds
games right now can still be handled by 4c/4t but with more cores/threads u will see a much more stable performance (less dips, higher minimum fps)
future games will also utilize more cores/threads which means ur i7 will be much more futureproof than the i5

this is why ryzen are kicking the kabylake in the ass pretty hard right now (more cores/threads, cheaper, free cooler in some version) [in terms of price/performance]
