This is probably a really stupid question for you pros here, but I am unsure.

I just purchased a new Intel CPU (P4 2.5ghz), a retail version that includes heatsink and fan. Unfortunately, it did not come with any thermal paste.

The instructions that came with it consist of 8 pictures. And none of those pictures shows anything that look like a tube of thermal paste.

So, is it a bad idea to install it without the paste, even if it is in accordance with the directions?

Thanks!

Wow! Quick reply!

Yes, it has a black something or other stuck to it. I hesitate to call it a thermal pad, but you are probably correct.

A lotof Intel HSF's come with a thermal pad so people dont fuk things up....

you can remove it if you want and put some thermal paste on it...but that seems like a waste of time to me
