CPU Upgrade-Is it worth it

Hi

Would an upgrade to a Core 2 Quad processor be much faster for a regular home PC compared to a Core 2 Duo E6800 (no gaming, no overclocking, no video editing). Just regular stuff, you know email, surfing the web, watching movies, sports, burning DVD's etc..?

If worth it, which model should I go for preferably (example: Q6600 and up or something like that) and how much (maximum price) should I pay ? We're talking LGA775 socket processor.

Or maybe I should stay with my Core 2 Duo E6800.

What do you guy think ?

The E6800 is fast enough for general windows use, and for the tasks you describe moving up to the Q6600 (which you already guessed is the bangs per penny cpu of choice on 775) would not make much difference.
I would just keep an eye out for one at silly money. If comes your way for 10 or 15 dollars it would be rude not to put it in. However. The E6800 IS later technology, and tho only has two cores, it has a 25% higher single thread performance than a q6600. The q6600 has a huge overclocking potential (25-50 %) on an aftermarket board.
Its swings and roundabouts with those cpu's.. Later 8 series quad cores cost too much to bother with.
