So I had just recently upgraded from an AMD 8350 processor to an i7 8700k. I had bought a new motherboard along with DDR4 Ram (16gb). For some reason it seems to be running slower than my counterpart and I don't know why considering it is a better piece. It just feels clunky and a bit slow. I also have a gtx 1050 2gb which im looking to upgrade in the near future but currently am a bit low on money.

Im guessing you've moved the hdd to the new system without reinstalling? That would explain the degraded performance.

For the matter of activating Windows 10 on new hardware, was the previous Windows Retail or Oem? Did you build it yourself or was it prebuilt?

* If Windows was an upgrade of either Retail or stand-alone Oem version and built it yourself, it is possible to transfer your license to a new system but an Microsoft Account is required to be created before making the hardware change so Microsoft knows it's you logging in to your digital license on the new hardware.

My first computer was rebuilt that came with windows 7. Then afterwards I got that free update and then i upgraded my hardware my very first time. This is the second time I am upgrading my motherboard and my processor. Would i have to start up the very first computer and transfer my license from that one?

Install a fresh copy of windows.

Only from the previous PC Windows came from, the 8350 system.

Prebuilt PCs can be difficult to understand. It is in black and white that OEM from coorperations such as Dell or HP where the original license came from can't be transferred to a different motherboard and Microsoft shouldn't activate but it has been done via normal means activating through the internet before phoning Microsoft. Because this is your second time, it might not be possible and a new license is required

Quote paragraph from MS in spoiler.

4. Transfer. The provisions of this section do not apply if you acquired the software in Germany or in any of the countries listed on this site (aka.ms/transfer), in which case any transfer of the software to a third party, and the right to use it, must comply with applicable law.

a. Software preinstalled on device. If you acquired the software preinstalled on a device (and also if you upgraded from software preinstalled on a device), you may transfer the license to use the software directly to another user, only with the licensed device. The transfer must include the software and, if provided with the device, an authentic Windows label including the product key. Before any permitted transfer, the other party must agree that this agreement applies to the transfer and use of the software.

b. Stand-alone software. If you acquired the software as stand-alone software (and also if you upgraded from software you acquired as stand-alone software), you may transfer the software to another device that belongs to you. You may also transfer the software to a device owned by someone else if (i) you are the first licensed user of the software and (ii) the new user agrees to the terms of this agreement. You may use the backup copy we allow you to make or the media that the software came on to transfer the software. Every time you transfer the software to a new device, you must remove the software from the prior device. You may not transfer the software to share licenses between devices.

Stand-alone is the copy of Windows and license bought as OEM from a PC store. Cheaper but has limits like no Microsoft support.

Software preinstalled on device Is i think where you are but got lucky activating the first time.

For best chances, create an MS account on your 8350 system and then reinstall Win10 on the new system. Follow the guide and when it's time to log in, fingers crossed it works. Otherwise, buy new license.

I'll try this and let you know what happens. Hopefully it works.
