Hi guys,

I am looking to see if I should be upgrading anything in my gaming rig. I have the following components and was wondering if I will need to be upgrading my cpu. Could you advise? If I do need to upgrade to achieve 60 fps 1080p gaming, to what could you advise to?

Any help is appreciated

Asus B85 Pro Gamer mobo
i5 4590 cpu
Colorful igame GTX 1070 ti utop gpu
8gb ram

Recommended req for Star Wars is an i7 6700k and 16GB ram. Looks like that game needs the threads.

Id look toward overhauling instead of spending money on second hand parts. Can get Ryzen 3600, 16GB 3200MHz ram and Msi B450 Max for not much.

The 4790 is still a good CPU and with the GTX 1070Ti you should be able to manage 1080p 60FPS with ease even in Ultra in most games and the most demanding should still more than allow high settings to maintain 60FPS...I would up your RAM by another 8GB to 16GB as that will help. Yes an upgrade to the platform will help of course but you should be okay for 1080p 60 FPS with that setup..

Thank you for the feedback @vMax and @boju

At this point in time do you think my motherboard would still suffice? I know it couldnt handle DDR4 Ram and the new processors as well. But I did see i7 4790k as compatible with this mobo. If I do buy this plus additional DDR3 ram, would this suffice for 1080p 60 fps gaming? Albeit star wars i might just buy for ps4

Only if for a good price and condition. Taking a gamble with unlocked cpus, just don't know how it's been treated.

If you buy more ram, consider buying a kit for compatibility. 1600MHz is max you can go due to Chipset limitation.

Thank you! Would an i7 4790 be better? Or if there is anything else that could be compatible with my mobo that you think I could go for

Also, for RAM do you have any recommendation on kits?
