Hello guys, I got HP 550 with Core 2 Duo T5470. I want to upgrade the CPU and i found one cheap wich is T9400. Will it work ? Whole laptop specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5470 @ 1.60GHz
Northbridge Intel GM965 rev. C0
Southbridge Intel 82801HBM (ICH8-ME) rev. B1
Memory Type DDR2
Memory Size 2 GBytes
Channels Single
Memory Frequency 332.5 MHz (3:5)

I am also going to get 2gb more ram and maybe an SSD.

Yes it will work but it's very hard to replace the CPU on a laptop. You'd be better off just buying a new laptop if you really need a better CPU.

The only realistic way that laptop will be worth upgrading is by adding another 2GB of RAM and a faster HDD or an SSD, as you proposed.

Well i opened the laptop to fix my pad, and noticed that the cpu is on a socket and isnt soldered, so i searched the net and noticed ppl upgrading their cpu on PGA478 Socket.

Here is a picture of the mobohttp://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/746934633/For-font-b-HP-b-font-font-b-550-b-font-Series-495410-001-Laptop-font.jpg and it has a normal socket. The cpu is held by two metal brackets held by 4 screws. Woody1999 oh well its the best i can find plus this one has 6mb cache instead of 2 old one has and its 900mhz more xD

You would notice a slight improvement with the T7300, but you would notice more of a performance improvement with a SSD and 4 GB of memory. That's a very old laptop, and not really worth investing in. If you got a SSD, you could always pull it and put it in a newer computer. For my older laptops, I've found that the Intel 310 or X25-M work well, with the 160GB models being available used for under $50 on the popular auction site.

I found T9300 for 35USD brand new and 1month used ssd for 40USD and DDR2 2GB 667 ram for around 5USD. Imma consider with jsmithepa`s offer but how can i know if the screen will fit with the connectors ?

If both models have the same screen spec, most likely they are interchangeable.
