Dear All,

Currently I have system with i7-4770 and GTX 1650 GDDR6. I plan to upgrade it to 12400F + B660 Board, most likely MSI B660 Morthar in about month from now. RAM planned will be DDR4 3600 CL16.

Would it be wise to spend more on 12700F with hope that I will get something like RTX 3070 level,or better stick to 12400F and sell it when RTX would be viable option?

Thank you for opinions.

Solution
if you will be searching for a new RTX until you find one then you may as well go for the 12700 now.
there's no guarantee that you would get an adequate sale price for the 12400 later to make the time in use worth the money you may have lost.

and who knows, you may run into a nice RTX 3000 at any time if you're registered for manufacturer queues, Newegg Shuffle, or anything similar.

I am in EVGA queue for RTX 3070 to be honest. So you advise me to go straight to 12700 + Z690 in this case?

this alone doesn't mean much.
i have been in the queue for a couple EVGA RTX 3000 cards for >1 year now and have heard nothing.
but if you have multiple options out there you may have more of a chance.

but why skimp out if you have the money to spend?
it's possible that you may run into a good high performance GPU at any time...
through Newegg's Shuffle i have landed a couple nice cards over the last 6 months or so; RX 6700 XT & RTX 3080 Ti.

paying a bit now for a lackluster CPU,
or paying a bit more for a stronger version...
would you rather go through selling and trying to recoup your money spent?

This is exactly the point I had initially. The logic behind that powerful CPU could be much cheaper later when AMD releases AM5 for example, I can jump straight to 13-Gen CPU.

but why skimp out if you have the money to spend?

I would like to minimize spending to avoid diminished returns. In case I pair theoretical 3070 with 12400F comparing to 12700F, would I lose much? Around 15% of performance?
