So Ive decided that I want to upgrade my toaster (PC) and replace the CPU, however Im not sure whether its compatible with my PC's motherboard.
From what Ive read from the website of my motherboard, this https://www.ebay.com/p/Intel-Core-i5-750-2-66GHz-Quad-Core-BX80605I5750-Processor/77603477
~Is compatible with my motherboard, it has the same LGA (1156) and is recommended by HP as an upgrade. However I am kinda unsure about this, because I want to make sure I dont get the wrong one.
So my question is: Does the CPU listed, (i5 540 2008 2.66GHz Quad Core Processor), work with my motherboard.
Specs:
My Computer Specs are as follows: HP Pavillion p6325a
This has been modified slightly. Added GPU Rx470 and 500V Power Supply
MB: MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E)
CPU: Intel Core i3 540 @3.06GHz
RAM installed ATM: 2x4gb

Specifications: https://support.hp.com/us-en/produc...ries/4079858/model/4184718/document/c02072590

If I've missed any stats, let me know

Thanks In advance

I don't see why it wouldn't be compatible. The HP link you posted says it is. (Processor Upgrades) No BIOS update should be required.

The i7-8xx processors should be too if you can find one in your price range. It would provide better performance than the i5-7xx.

The 750 is a really good step up from that i3, even though the 540 is technically the newer cpu (barely). If able to add some OC to that 750, it'll do even better.

You can get used i7-860/870 for less than $50. Not sure if it's worth spending $150 on a new i5 that's already over 9 years old.

Thank you, Ive looked into getting my friends i5-650 3.20GHz from him but Im unsure whether it would work with my motherboard, so I just asked again whether it would downclock or not in another thread.

Yeah, that should be swap and go too. But for $20 + shipping, I'd go with the i5-750. Have you priced the old i7-8xx?
And why would you think the i5 would down-clock?
