Good morning all,

I have a old Latitude e6320 which I love and use for music production. I want to upgrade the i5 2520m to this - i7-2715QE

I have done my research and ark.Intel says that this new CPU is supported by my QM 67 chipset. I just wanted to double check with you guys as I can find no further info on the subject from google searches etc.

Thank you kindly, !

David

Same generation so should work, but depends. Some Laptop mfg make it pretty hard to get to let alone upgrade the CPU. Last time I upgraded a Notebook CPU was A Pentium M to a Core 2 Duo. On the ARK one says "mobile" and one says "embedded" which might mean it was only used on boards where it was soldered in, but could essentially mean the same thing.

You're trading some megahertz for extra cores, I don't think you'll get the boost in music production applications that you think, which I can't think would be that heavily threaded. When you do whatever processor intensive task you run, check Task Manager to see if all 4 logical cores are close to or at 100%. If only one or two is, it's a complete waste of time.

the CPU is not socketed but soldered to the motherboard. You would have to replace your motherboard with a better CPU already soldered on that board, but then you could just buy a used better Laptop
