[SOLVED] cpu upgrade / swap

so i have a dell optiplex 9010 aio and it has a i7-3770s and a dell optiplex 790 with a i5-2400 and was wondering if i could swap them. i use the optiplex 790 for gaming and was thinking i would get a little boost in performance while i wait for some money to do a better CPU upgrade.

from what i have researched they are the same socket and the optiplex 9010 has a socket for the CPU.

so i was just wondering if it was even possible to do.

feel free to ask for any info i missed.

I'm not seeing any running there.

So I got the bios updated and I swapped the i7 to the optiplex 790 and it is just spinning the fans fast then slow and repeating with no video signal

Make sure all the pins are visible and aren’t bent or dust is covering them. Also did you update to latest bios

yea ill check the pins but the i5 still works in the mobo so idk but ill try it still

ok so i've done a bit of research after try out what i said i would do right above this and the chip set on my mobo doesn't support ivy bridge

Also check the actual bottom of the CPU

Double check Dell to see if any bios updates are available also.

so i got the bois updated there is nothing i can see that is wrong with the pins or the bottom of the cpu i think i don't have the right chipset.
