Hello,

i would like to upgrade my cpu to 14700 or 14700K, only difference between K and non-K version is overclocking and slightly lower boost right? What would be better choice for Asus prime B760M-A motherboard? if i get it correctly i could not overclock 14700k anyway because its not Z motherboard so 14700 is better choice? or its still better to get 14700k?

Thank you

Yes.

Either is fine. B760 doesn't allow cpu overclocking.

AFAIK the performance difference between the K and non-K in the last few generations has been pretty slim, and mostly dependent on what the motherboard is doing with the PL1/PL2 power limits.

Will the non-K use less power? Only if the BIOS is set at the extremely conservative 65W power limit as printed on the retail box. But the performance profiles in enthusiast chipsets will easily blow past that (including B760).

Edit TLDR: A 14700 and performance power profile is the way to go.

Overclocking does not neccessarily give you a huge boost anyway. The 14700 is a powerful CPU. I doubt you would get a huge bonus with the K version without considerable effort and OC knowledge.

For normal purposes the non-K version is a great choice. Plus, you'd need a new motherboard for the K.

Thanks for replies, 14700 it is then, is my current Endorfy Fera 5 enough for such a CPU or do i need AIO? There is a good deal for Arctic Freezer II 240mm in my local shop for about 65€. CPU will be used for ocasional rendering in cinema 4D (artlantis...), mainly cad drawing programs, also AAA games once in a while.

Thank you for fast reply, so with my motherborad i could not undervolt it or make it more efficient? 14700 witkout-k should have better temps and lower W, did i get it right?
Within the last hour, I've read of issues with undervolting on certain B760 motherboards. Gigabyte or MSI, I can't recall which.

You ought to dig into that and try to confirm.

As far as I know, that would NOT totally remove any chance of de-tuning to reduce power.
