So i want upgrade my dual core g3258 to something with more cores and that will last for a few years as a decent cpu. I have been looking at both the 4690k and the 4790k and also a few zenon's. i do a lot of multitasking while gaming. Ok here is my problem as it stands i can't overclock my cpu for some reason, my guess is memory or poor psu. or it could just be crappy wires in the home i live in. So there is my problem. please help if you can.

I would say beyond unlucky since i can't get a stable oc of even 3.5ghz

most of time it would not even boot. i would set all required setting in bios save and leave and then it would try and boot into windows but would instead just poweroff and reboot and then say boot crash do you want to use bios defaults or enter bios.

I have followed every overclocking guide i could find on the web about z97 boards and also about g3258 cpu's. my most stable oc involved turning off xmp profile on my memory and tuning it down to 1333 from the rated 1866.

trying to find out more about the timings for my ram. but most of the programs i find only give the timings for 1600 and 1866. I could not find the timings for 1333. most sites including this one state 1333 is what is supported on the cpu.

i picked this as solution since we strayed completely from the original question on this thread, but that is ok it was still new knowledge i did not have. thank you for your time and posts.

went with 4690k and a overkill cooler for it Corsair 110i gtx aio. Looked at nzxt x-61 but was at least 15 dollars more in price. only got the over kill cooler for future use as well.
