Question CPU Upgrade

Hello people from the Tomshardware forum! I would like to upgrade my i5-7400 to an i7. My motherboard says it supports 6th and 7th gen CPUs. But the socket is a 1151 socket and some newer cpus also have an 1151 socket. So I wonder, do those CPUs fit too? Which CPU would you recommend for my pc? Without the need to buy something extra. Also I want a CPU that won't bottleneck my GPU (I believe my CPU bottlenecks my GPU now).
If you can help me that would be awesome!

BUDGET: I prefer to keep the prise under €300

Motherboard: ASrock Z270 Pro4

Ram: DDR4 16 GB

SSD/HDD: SSD: crucial ct275mx300ssd1 HDD: toshiba dt01aca100

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

PSU: Cooler Master MasterWatt 750

Chassis: Sharkoon AI7000 Glass

OS: Windows 10

your best upgrade would be an i7 7700/7700k. maybe you can find one brand new for exactly €300, or just a tad bit more .

the i7 7700 new hovers around ~330USD, for the K version around ~380USD.

if you can find a good source for second hand cpus you can maybe find one thats significantly cheaper.

and your current cpu doesnt "bottleneck" you gpu tl;dr, to have a proper understanding on what a bottleneck looks like watch Jayztwocents recent video about it or read about it in some article.

Thank very much for your advice. Lastly, They're 2 things I want to know at last. I don't need a water cooler for my new CPU, right? And secondly, I can't buy i8th/i9th CPU? Although it says it's a socket 1151?

your chipset doesnt support 8th/9th gen intel CPUs sadly. and it depends if you care about noise AIO coolers like the NZXT kraken x52/62 would be a good choice it cools really well and is quiet, but if you dont want to risk AIO failures or leakages you can go for the old reliable air cooler, Cooler master master air maker coolers are good and beefy enough for your potential upgrade or something like the noctua NHD15 would be awesome although make sure it fits your case since the NHD15 is massive.
