Because both cpus use the same socket and chipset according to pcpartpicker.

This is not always correct, especially in pre-built machines. What is even more important is that there are two different generations of processors here, so while the socket is the same, that dosen't mean a newer processor will work.

The OP needs to give us the Dell model number or serial to figure out if what they want to do will work.

OEM vendors like Dell are not standard like Intel motherboards even if they have the same chpiset and socket they won't work because of the bios which doesn't include newer CPUs microcode.
