CPU UPGRADE

Please help. I have my GATEWAY NE56R Laptop which came with 4 GB DDR3 RAM, Windows 8 and Intel pentium b960. Now I want to upgrade it by changing the current processor to i5 2540m. Will it work? And how to upgrade BIOS? Please give me a detailed reply. THANK YOU!!

That is a really old system and certainly not worth the upgrade cost and risk associated with it.

The motherboard socket isn't even the same, so it's not really possible. Sorry.

Most times the processor is soldered to the motherboard so I'd forget it. Not only that, but that socket doesn't support anything decent. Much better off getting a new laptop

I cant afford a new laptop. Like anything. Just tell me anything which can be used. The best one.

It looks to me as if the b960 and the i5 2540m do indeed use the same socket. Whether or not the motherboard will 'play nicely' with that i5 is anyone's guess but it should fit the socket no problem. There's no guaranties with cpu swapping if that's what you're looking for.

So in short you mean YES? I want to play CS:GO at high FPS thats why I am upgrading the CPU. I already upgraded RAM from 4 GB to 8 GB. On CPU UPGRADE site, it shows that it will work in b960 processor's slot nicely.
