Hello everyone, this all started a couple days ago when i saw a really good deal on some used ram, so i decided to grab some for my dad. (He has the 550-015no from HP.) So before i order them i sit down infront of his pc and open google to google the pc, and wow was it slow. So i decided to check out what CPU's he could upgrade too, since his cpu usage was hitting 100% from loading a website. I had already switched out his HDD to SSD, and he didn't really notice a change which was weird, and now it all made sense. So i checked out what CPU's i could get and i already knew these we're gonna be impossible to get ahold of. But i've seen the people on this forum do great things, so i have 2 questions. Is it possible to find any of the CPU's listed on their website? (for a reasonable price), or if i have to, is it safe to buy off of aliexpress without me getting scammed?

TL;DR: 550-015no, Can i buy a CPU for a reasonable price under their upgrades list, and or is it safe to buy from aliexpress?

Edit: If you do happen to find one, please make sure it is better than the a8 7600 (2 cores). I'm not exactly trying to downgrade. Thanks everyone.

There is nothing worth spending money on with FM2+. Don't even buy the RAM. ANY money spent on that class of AMD CPU is wasted.

Consider looking even at things like refurbished 4th gen Dell Optiplex (3020/7020/9020) or similar HP business class models. You can typically find the SFF or DT versions of those for ~ $100. The SSD in the current rig should carry over.

I'd suggest only using a choice that's on the upgrade list to be sure it's compatible with HP's BIOS. The way to do it is pick a processor from the upgrade list and shop for the lowest price...so tell us the choices you're given on the upgrade list and someone may help you choose the more powerful among them.

A used processor will most likely be cheapest. Buying a processor from Aliexpress is as risky as buying anything else from them. Buying a used processor is always a bit risky. But if price is low enough the risk isn't great and quite likely the only way to make it worth your while.

The other elephant in the room (aside from the mentioned compatibility issues that are possible) is that the IPC/performance of the best CPU on that platform (A10-7890K) is barely 10% better than the 7600. Add on top of that buying from Ali, waiting weeks for something that can't be returned, if you get it or doesn't work, and then you have wasted a good portion of the budget that would have been the used office PC that even of the age I mention is WORLDS apart in better performance. A "lowly" 4670 is well better than 50% more powerful.

A10-7890K for sale | eBay

Dell 7020 for sale | eBay

It just doesn't make sense to spend in that direction.
