CPU Usage and frequency

When I play games (doesn't matter what - even Roblox) my CPU usage goes from 50-60% to about 90% and my frequency drops to 20%. It happens only a couple of minutes after I start the game and then happens more frequently. It only happens for a couple of seconds


So, can someone help me? I think it's a mobo issue


I have an i5-5200U at 2.2 ghz

There is a couple things to look at here. If your CPU frequency (clock) drops after playing something CPU intensive, it may be thermal throttling due to insufficient cooling. Try installing HWInfo x64 and check your temps when you run any game. If it goes >90c it's most probably thermal throttling.

Another thing is if your cpu is set to "High Performance" in windows power settings allowing it to preform at max speed all the time.
You can do this by typing "power" in the windows start menu, clicking on "power and sleep settings" going to the right and clicking "Additional power settings" and selecting "High performance" if not already selected. If it's not popping up try opening "show additional plans".

Just with Roblox running (not playing), I reached 90-100 degrees C

What can I do about this? Do I have open up my laptop?

can you adjust fan cooling speed in your bios? Your cpu is throttling back because of temps are too high.

No, I can't. The Lenovo bios is really crappy.
