CPU usage high for everything?

Hey folks,

I have a pretty mid scale gaming rig with an i5 6600k, 16 gig of ddr4 ram, a gtx 1080, etc... and i've been noticing some issues with CPU usage and Ram lately. For example, right now chrome is using up 3 gigs of my ram. I know Chrome ram usage and cpu usage is normally pretty high, but i don't ever recall is exceeding 1.5 gigs of usage. Another example is when I was updating my nvidea drivers my cpu usage shot up to 100%. Last, when i'm playing some very low graphic intensive game like runescape (don't judge lol) and am watching youtube or something on the side i'm running at like 100% cpu usage.

I built my computer around my needs and was told that an i5 would be more than enough to handle my needs from multiple sources.. but i'm really considering upgrading to an i7 8700k because it's almost frustrating to use my rig rn.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated!

And which process causes this 100% cpu usage?
Did you check your pc for malware?

Could be some extension in chrome causing abnormal cpu usage.

It's very unstable.
The CPU usage value jumps from like 30% to 70% when i'm not doing any tasks..
Yes the pc is up to date with malware and virus checks.
The only extensions i have on chrome are momentum (welcome screen) adblock and the google docs ones.

I figured out my issue.
For some reason i only had 2 cores running not 4.
I did some troubleshooting and resolved the issue!
