Hi guys....Need your help to find out why my CPU Utilization is 100% all the time. It just happened couple of days ago just after i discovered some burning smell from the casing. Now my windows xp is really lagging alot and can't even launch more than 2 programs.
My PC spec: Athlon XP 1700+, 512MB DDR, MSI nForce, 2 x 40GB Maxtor HDD, MSI Ti4200 AGP8X

press control+shift+ escape(or ctrl+alt+del if under windows 2000 then task manager)
Then go on the process tab and click on cpu, like thise the process that takes the most cpu cycles will be on top...
Now either tell us what process it is or jsut google it.

usually has to do with spyware/virus, got any programs for those?
FOr spyware free apps liek SPyBot search&destroy and Microsoft spyware detectors are good!

Normally I would think spyware/adware, but since it just started happening, plus it seems like it's cooking.

Yeah but why would it run at 100% those AXP dont have any sort of throteling, so you cant link more heat to more CPU usage. With a P4 or a A64, if the chip starts cooking, it throttles, thus all the apps have a hard time running a pushing that 1ghz cpu to 100% but thats definitvly not the case here...

Altought id be carefull because those AXP do burn up!

I agree. It sounds like a virus that's probably mass mailing spam or something god awful. If anything went up in smoke it might have been because the system has been maxed out by the virus.

Pleased to meet you. Hope you guessed my name.
But what's puzzling you is the nature of my game.

But I just re-formatted my drives. Didn't go on to the net yet...suspected mobo just fried. But dunno how to find out what's the problem. Will reinserting the cpu helps??
