Hi guys
My i7 4770k is reaching 72 degrees celsius average on 1st 2nd and 3 core while the 4th keeps at 64 degrees celsius while running prime 95 on a 4.2 Ghz OC I'm using a 212 evo with fans on both sides arent those temps way too high?(cpu is in armor revo case with 4 fans installed)

thanks for the help.

The Haswell chips run hot. When I first OC'd my 4670K to 4.2Ghz with a Zalman 135mm heat sink my temps were around 70c in prime95. I reapplied my Arctic Silver 5 but it made no difference. I decided to return my Zalman and go with a H100i and that basically took care of the problem. I think overclocking more than 10-15% on air while maintaining reasonable temperatures with Haswell is a little too much to ask. That being said, your 4.2Ghz overclock @ 72c in prime95 isn't bad compared to the similar results I got on air.

Here is a 4770K review from Newegg with your same scenario:

"Pros: This CPU is a beast, HUGE FPS improvements in gaming over my old 2500k. Overall desktop experience is much faster, smoother and the onboard graphics work great with my multi monitor setup.

Cons: Overclocking blows! I can't go past 4.2ghz on air (coolermaster hyper 212+) the temps soar to 74c at 4.3ghz which is not to my personal liking. I'll push it further once I get a liquid cooler later on.

Other Thoughts: The multiplier doesn't ever seem to go down to x8 even with stock settings but the volts drop WAY down to 0.16!
I would have liked to see not only the volts drop but the multiplier to save heat etc. All in all I am very happy with this CPU but there is just a few nit picky things like overclocking and heat."

When I switched from my Zalman to the H100i I was able to get to 4.6Ghz in a 75 degree room with my temps topping out at 68c after an hour of prime95. Hope all this helps!
