Cpu with lower voltage socket than cpu.

I was looking in reviews of the cpu I just bought off new egg yesterday and there's one guy saying it doesn't work with anything over 95 watts, I was thinking to myself and didn't think this sounded right. Wouldn't it just become unstable and or undervolt?

Also if it does work how would i prevent it from undervolting, surely there's something i can change to lower my cpus voltage consumption.

according to the motherboard specs it supports up to 95w

doesnt mean the cpu wont work

but the danger is you will burn out something on the motherboard

maybe not immediately

but i wouldnt put that cpu in that motherboard personally

The problem is not the CPU, which has a Thermal Design Power of 125W -- it is your motherboard that recommends to use 95W CPU.

I am not into AMD systems, but 95W should be the minimum, however someone more knowledgeable will tell you it below.

95w is the maximum not the minimum

45w should be the minimum i would think

i think the problems would occur in the power phases overheating

Cant i just undervolt the cpu to avoid having it burn out on me?

well for one thing thats a black edition cpu

so the idea is to overclock it

and how would you know how much to undervolt it?

unless you could measure how many watts the cpu alone was using

and even if undervolting it brought it down to the 95w the cpu may be too unstable

so you would have to under clock the cpu as well

personally in my opinion you need either a lower wattage cpu or a different motherboard

can you return either of them?

or just go ahead and do it--but dont count on the motherboard lasting

It's a 40 dollar motherboard, if it goes it goes, . As long as it doesn't catch on fire like i've head happens from time to time in my situation.
