Looking to buy a CPU and i noticed that some do not have L3 cache. Is this a disadvantage compare to cpu's WITH l3 cache ?

Solution
Depends on what CPUs you are comparing. Intel CPUs do not have L3 cache and never did, yet they easily outperform AMD CPUs because of the way they are designed. Some AMD CPUs have L3 cache and some don't. Generally speaking when comparing AMD CPUs of the same generation the ones with L3 would perform a little better. However, overall it depends on exactly what CPU models you are actually comparing.
L3 cache is in the cpu chip where it buffers ram in faster ram.
If you have it and how much is an architectural cpu design thing.
I would ignore it as a metric for any decision making.
In gross terms, compare the passmark numbers for two different cpu's.

A disadvantage would only show between two identical CPU's, one with and one without.
Since that won't happen, it is impossible to compare.

Which 2 CPU's?

Hmm? Intel's CPUs have had L3 caches as far back as the 130nm Gallatin Xeons. L3 caches didn't become a component of Intel's desktop microprocessors until Nehalem though.
