I have a fairly new rig the specs of which should be in my signature, and am having some serious trouble overclocking that I hope I could get some help with.

I made all of these changes through the BIOS.

R.B.G. - Fast (this is the Robust graphics booster)
CPU Clock Ratio - moved from 6x to 8x
CPU Host - enabled
CPU Host Frequency - 271

Now, unless I'm being dense here, this should give me a 2.16Ghz clock speed. Now, the default clock ratio according to my motherboard is 6x and the CPU host freq is 200. This makes no sense considering my CPU is rated at 2.4Ghz and these would multiply to give me only 1.2Ghz.

Anyway, after making the changes I have made, I reboot and run CPU-Z to see this:

For some reason, either the proc isn't overclocked right or CPU-Z doesn't recognize the multiplier moved from 6x to 8x, and so my proc speed is reading as 1.6Ghz. Oddly, it fluctuates up and down as the program runs. This could be normal. My Computer and SysMark are showing the correct CPU speed.

I'm not sure whether my proc is bad, the motherboard defaults are wrong, or I have done something drastically wrong.

One suggestion I received on another board is that Intel Speedstep decreases the multiplier from 9x to 6x. I'll have to research this a bit.

ya just follow the ocing guide stickied at the top of the overclocking forums. you need to disable a few things in the bios. follow the guide for help

Yes, it is. If you own a laptop, that is. But I don't see a valid reason to have it running constantly if you are using a desktop.

I downloaded a app from Gigabyte that allows you to adjust SpeedStep from Windows. I'll probably keep it on unless I'm playing a game that really needs the proc turned up. So far, neither Crysis nor Bioshock have seemed affected.
