CPU-Z Says my i7 4790 has 2 cores

Just bought an i7 4790 used for 130 euros. I noticed that it performed very badly compared to my i5 4460. I checked CPU-Z and saw this https://i.imgur.com/nRhsmlg.png

Also, I never seem to get over 3.6GHz to the boost clock of 4GHz. My i5 4460 did boost normally and I have turbo boost set to on in BIOS. Any ideas?

you might try downloading Intel's Processor Diagnostic Tool and run it - it won't take 5 minutes to run a complete test: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/19792/Intel-Processor-Diagnostic-Tool

If it shows fine, then look in bios if there isn't a selection for how many cores to activate

also, did you clear CMOS after installing the 4790?

Did you do a clean install of windows when you installed the new processor? Or are you running an existing install? Usually that should not be an issue but I've seen old install fail to properly detect new CPUs correctly and fail like what your are seeing.

Click Start and Open Run or Click Search Icon and Go to/Type msconfig (will open System Configuration)
Click "Boot" tab
Click "Advanced options..." button (will open the BOOT Advanced Options)
Uncheck the "Number of processors"
Click OK / Apply
Restart Windows
Check if the Task Manager now reports: "Cores: 4" and "Logical processors: 8"

Are you using Windows 7 ? If so, upgrade to 10 and the issue will resolve itself.
