Cpu-Z shows x0 as max supported PCIe lenght. Is this normal?

So today while playing a (quite performance intensive) video game, my PC randomly shut down. When I tried to turn it on again, I got no signal from my GPU. When I plugged the VGA cable directly into the motherboard the signal returned, using the internal GPU from my APU.

After trying some basic things, like reinstalling the drivers and resetting the motherboard settings, I wanted to see if the PC was detecting anything at all in the PCIe slot, so I fired up CPU-Z to see if that could help me. I noticed that under the Mainboard tab, within the Graphical Interface section, it shows "Version: PCI-Express, Link Width: x0, Max. Supported: x0". I wonder if this is normal, or if this could indicate the motherboard being broken, instead of the GPU? I won't have time to test the board with a different GPU until wednesday, which is why I was hoping this could help give me an answer.

The motherboard I'm using is an MSI A55M-p33, in combination with an old AMD A8-3870. The video card was an AMD Radeon r9 280x.

It shows x0 both when the GPU is connected and when it's disconnected from the motherboard.

It suggests to me the motherboard is not seeing an operational GPU in the slot in either case.
