Hi, I've got 4 processors I got second hand I don't know if they work or not, two are socket 478, one is a p4 1.6 ghz, and the other is a celeron 2.0 ghz both 400 fsb. The other two are socket 370 celerons 1100 and 1300 mhz, 100 fsb. I dont have any working systems or anything to test them in. I have asked a local computer friend if he had anything but have not received a response from him. Does anyone have a mobo that would take these cpu's I could borrow somehow along with some ram (if it takes ddr memory for the socket 478 cpus)? Or maybe we could work something out if I send them to someone for testing them for me? I know its asking alot but I really want to use one of the 478 cpu's to upgrade my own system which is ancient (p3-733), but dont have the resources to get a board or ram at the moment until I know one of the cpu's is good.

Thanks very much in advance.

it might help if you posted where you live

If I could bid and complete an auction on Ebay I wouldnt be asking here. I live in southern central North Carolina, Fayetteville, exactly.

I'm looking for something very low cost or next to nothing. If you can donate any hardware you have lying around it would be most gratefully appreciated. I'm just in a bleak situation and was hoping someone could help me out, but I guess there is no one willing to bend over backwards and help a fellow pc junkie out.

Thanks in advance.

Go to http://www.compgeeks.com and get their "FC/PGA to FC/PGA2" adapter. It's around $8 last I checked, and allows Tualatins to work in Coppermine boards such as yours.

$8 isn't much to lose if you find out they don't work. You can send the 1100 to me for the tip 😛

Hey Crash, LTNT, lol. I got the board I'm running now from you ages ago. I finally got rid of the craperon and put the p3 in it last year and now want to go faster again, go figure. LOL

If it works, I'll send you the BP6 board I have thats fubard and you can fix it and keep it lol. Also send you two craperons one 400 and one 500. LOL.

Now all I need is $8 LOL.

Are they any better than the p3-733? Will the jump from P3-733 to Celeron 1100 or 1300 be much noticable?

Thanks in advance.

Well I just went to the site and of course, they are out of stock at the moment, and they are actually $4.99 it says on the site.

Don't know how much shipping and handling would be to NC from wherever they are but hopefully not over $5.

I saw one of thse on EBay and the guy was selling it for way more than $5.

I read about it but didn't even think that I could use it.

I recall him saying something they don't make them anymore?

I hope they get some more in at the site, I am signing up for the restock alert and I guess I will have to wait and see.

As an afterthought I googled FC/PGA to FC/PGA2 adapter and found several others selling them for the same price and much more, so maybe I'll just give one of them a whirl and get two while I'm at it so I will have one for each system here in case both processors work, I can upgrade both systems here in one fell swoop.
Edited by wjk3 on 07/10/05 07:24 PM.

Tualatin Celerons are OK, the major handicap being bus speed. The 1.1 is actually a better choice than the 1.3 because you'll be able to get it working at 133 bus, 1466MHz.

The adapter has jumpers inside the socket hole that allow you to select your own bus speed and voltage. You could set it at 1.65v and 133MHz bus, and your board would detect it as such.

With the bus speed handicap removed, the 1466 will give you nearly twice the CPU performance of the 733!
